Metering, Billing/CRM Europe, Amsterdam, October 9, 2012 – CURRENT Group, LLC, a leading global innovator of smart grid infrastructure and software solutions for utilities, today announced the release of its next-generation Intelligent Data Concentrator (IDC) product line that enables utilities to leverage smart metering deployments to provide for full grid supervision and automation benefits. By combining data concentrator functionality with integrated sensing, and digital control capabilities, these next-generation IDC products enable utilities to use the same infrastructure installed for smart metering for the support of advanced supervision, analytics, and automation functions.
“Utilities across the world are looking for ways to leverage their smart metering deployments to create significant reliability and efficiency improvements within their distribution networks,” said Tom Willie, CEO of CURRENT. “Our next-generation IDC solutions allow utilities to deploy smart metering infrastructure while gaining the added benefit of integrated sensing and control functionality.”
CURRENT’s next-generation IDCs combine PRIME-based powerline communications and data concentrator functionality with enhanced supervision and energy balancing, which enables recording harmonic distortions, detecting neutral current, performing sequence decomposition and instrumenting sags and swells. In addition, integrated support for a plugin digital I/O module allows the IDC to transform from a typical data concentrator into a digital control unit.
CURRENT will be exhibiting at the Metering Billing/CRM (Booth #D62) in Amsterdam, October 9-11, 2012, and the European Utility Telecom Conference in Warsaw, October 24-26, 2012. In addition we are participating at the Low Carbon Network Fund event of the Energy Networks Association, October 25-26 in Cardiff, Wales.
