The CURRENT® API-2000-SA is a small, compact, stand-alone Medium Voltage Broadband Powerline Communication (MV-BPL) product used by electric utilities to extend communications over Medium Voltage (MV) lines. The device performs a critical function within CURRENT’s Connected Intelligence® product suite. The device allows for the utility to cost effectively connect to locations or assets within their distribution grid. Additionally, managing devices on the network is simplified by employing OpenGrid ® Networking – an easy-to use network management solution.

Designed on Proven Technology
The device is the latest in the API-2000 product line and features the same robust MV-BPL solution based on OPERA technology that has been widely and intensively tested in different outdoor MV/LV environments. It has reached a high degree of maturity and offers sufficient bandwidth to aggregate various utility data traffic generated from a large quantity of substations.
Adheres to Standard Protocols
The API-2000-SA supports a wide range of standard protocols that assure a seamless integration with any Smart Grid communications solutions. For example in the case of AMI, it can transport meter data from the transformer stations to the meter data management system. It also allows integration of transformer monitoring, protection and control equipment in the transformer station to the SCADA and Renewable generation connection to the monitoring and control communication network.
OpenGrid Networking
OpenGrid Networking is a highly scalable network management software platform that allows the utility to remotely provision, manage, troubleshoot, control software versions and manage assets. Additionally, OpenGrid gives the user a simple to navigate web based graphical interface that is used as a cockpit to manage devices.
Fully Managed Solution
OpenGrid Networking greatly reduces the cost of ownership with savings in all areas, including turn-key provisioning, Smart Grid analytics and increased system availability through real-time monitoring and trouble-shooting tools.
Scalability
The product contains a built-in splitter/filter to connect two broadband PLC couplers directly, and with the addition of CURRENT’s Active Signal Distribution Box (ASDB), up to 16 couplers can be supported.
Security
All CURRENT broadband PLC products fully support a variety of mechanisms to ensure the confidentiality and data integrity of the data transmitted through the communications network, including advanced authentication and access controls using cryptographic techniques.
Based on Industry Standards
SNMP agents enable efficient integration into standard network management systems. HTTP enables individual node configuration and monitoring through an easy-to use graphical user interface.
Designed for Utility Use
OpenGrid based management greatly reduces total cost of ownership with savings in turn-key provisioning, meter data collection, Smart Grid
analytics, etc.
